gay single dad, small business owner, and gun violence survivor, Phelan is exactly the progressive change the people of District 3 deserve.

Career-minded politician Corey Johnson has been term-limited from his District 3 Council position. The speaker jumped out of the Mayoral race when he knew he would have lost with that much attention on his past (and current) governmental moves. So, in an unsurprising turn of events, he decided to continue his anti-middle and working-class politics with a run for NYC Comptroller. This while his former Chief of Staff Erik Bottcher, equally as horrible, tries to replace him.

Nothing like the smell of nepotism in the morning am I right?

Getting that nonsense out of the way, Phelan is running a campaign based on racial and economic justice, continuing to bring to light the failures of NYC’s current budgetary priorities. He also makes clear his stance that defunding the police is not a want but a must, and how that surplus money from the City’s bloated police budget can be transferred to entities like NYC’s education system that would go well beyond meeting the basic needs of our students and youth. When elected, Phelan will be the first Black Councilmember to serve District 3 ever. Truly unfortunate that this is the case in 2021, but exciting nonetheless.

District 3 encompasses the Manhattan areas of Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, Greenwich Village, West SoHo, Hudson Square, Times Square, the Garment District, Flatiron, and the Upper West Side. Learn more about Phelan’s campaign and the details of his plans that he will be ushering in. Phelan is the definition of a fresh start at its fullest; especially for NYC.
